Optic Fibre Solutions

The national optic fibre network in South Africa is rapidly expanding, to improve on the existing fibre infrastructure footprint and provide widespread, high-speed internet connectivity across the country to both businesses and homeowners. The technology competes against other transmission systems, however its importance in the communication’s arena cannot be discounted due to its unrivalled stability in the high speed transmission of large quantities of data.

As a company, we have been involved in fibre network route planning and design in metropolitan areas and over long distance transmission routes, including a 1800km fibre link from KZN to the Western Cape. Our capabilities include engineering difficulties identification, route alignment selection and detail route construction designs.

Clients include fibre infrastructure developers, operators and service providers with a selection of projects presented in our project’s portfolio.

Nimba Iron Ore, Guinea and Liberia

Apr 2015 – ongoing

Project:
Fibre Optic Cable Route Survey & Detail Design

As part of a project to increase the coverage and data capacity of MTN’s existing cellular network in the Cape Town region, ZTE was contracted by the client to design and install new cell towers and upgrade links between existing towers to fibre optic cables. Nurizon was subsequently contracted by ZTE to assist with the design of fibre to the site (FTTS), between these sites.

Nimba Iron Ore, Guinea and Liberia

Apr 2015 – Aug 2015

Project:
Fibre Optic Cable Route Survey & Detail Design

FibreCo, an independent fibre network operator and JV between Cell C, Convergence Partners and Internet Solutions, is progressing with the installation of a fibre backbone ring from Gauteng to the Cape in South Africa. This consists of three work packages labelled ‘NTP1’, ‘NTP2’ and ‘NTP3’. NTP1 is (at time of publication) in the process of being constructed and detail surveys and design was required for NTP2 and NTP3 in order to proceed with subsequent phases. The works for these remaining packages stretch from Amanzimtoti (KZN) to Cape Town (WC), following the N2 highway and totalled approximately 1800km.

Fibre to Sites, Bloemfontein Region

Sep 2013 – Oct 2013

Project:
Fibre Optic Route Survey: As-built Information

As part of a design-build procurement contract, ZTE was appointed by MTN to design and install fibre cables between existing microwave cell towers in the Free State, and more specifically the Bloemfontein area, i.e. install of ‘fibre to the site’ (FTTS).
